I’ve been listening to Ofei for at least 6 months straight, Im so excited to hear more from him, his voice and the stacked harmonies in the chorus are so sick and I couldn’t have a playlist about London without including this!
Easy Easy- King Krule
This guy really epitomises the sound of city living for me, his voice and lyrics are raw, haunting and at times bleak, but the sweet jazz chords he puts underneath add hope and light. I think he’s the truth, his album is my go to listen when Im on the tube, definitely someone I need to see live this year.
Your Wondering Now- The Specials
There’s a ska record stall on Portabello Road that is always playing ‘The Specials’ and ‘Toots and the Maytals’ tunes, this in particular really reminds me of walking to the studio last summer and just generally feeling happy!!
No big Ting- Skinnyman
‘Council Estate Of Mind’ I still think is one of the most overlooked classic hip hop albums, Im a sample addict and I love how he uses them in his tunes. I’m not sure if he’s still making music but it would be a massive shame if he wasn’t, feels so classic to me when I hear this song..
Dont Mug Yourself- The Streets
Mike Skinner. What else can I say.
Adele’s first album is my favourite, I saw her support Raul Midon when I was about 12 and I remember being floored by her and just wishing she was my mate! She really is a national treasure and I love how she’s stayed true to her roots throughout.”
Above is alternative pop artist August & Us. Hailing from Manchester, UK August mixes a blend of soulful pop music to create a atmosphere that he describes feels like “the last few days of sunshine”.
After being 1/4 of Manchester band Kid British, August & Kid decided to take a back seat from the songwriting and instead lets the music come together organically, this can be heard throughout the track ‘Fun’, the music and really adds a DIY element to what would be an extremely polished release.
Having recently appeared on BBC’s Zane Lowe‘s prestigious radio show, its clear that we will be hearing alot more from August & Us on the airwaves this summer.
Above is London born singer songwriter, Ellie Rose who last summer released her brilliant EP ‘Speed Bump/Memory Foam’ that features production from the talented FrankMusik. Ellie’s style is a simple, but stunning mix of acoustic guitars and a voice that shocks upon first listen!
Having recently completed a lengthy coffee house tour, across major universities in UK Ellie Rose is starting to become recognised in the British music scene and it won’t be long before she is a worldwide star.
Hailing from Birmingham is singer-songwriter Stealth. Having worked with artists such as True Tiger and Steve Dub, we are already anticipating more material from this rising star.
Using a similar style to popular UK act Disclosure, with Stealth being versatile enough to sing over D&B, Soul, Acoustic & Pop. A selection of his most recent work is available on SoundCloud HERE. However for a taster, check out the standout track ‘Won’t See Me Cry‘ below!
You can see Stealth live at the upcoming gig at the Underbelly, London on 24th March!
